LGBTQIA+ Friendly Acupuncture in Coburg, Melbourne
Inclusive, respectful and trans-affirming Chinese medicine
At Coburg Chinese Medicine, I believe everyone deserves to feel respected, comfortable and supported when accessing healthcare. As both a practitioner and a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I understand how important it can be to find healthcare where your identity is respected and your individual circumstances are understood.
My clinic welcomes lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, intersex, queer and gender-diverse people, as well as people of all sexual orientations, gender identities and backgrounds.
As an independent acupuncture and Chinese medicine practitioner in Melbourne's northern suburbs, I aim to provide an inclusive environment where your identity is respected, your privacy is valued and your choices about your healthcare are central to every consultation.
Respecting your name, pronouns and identity
I understand that the name or gender recorded on official documents may not reflect how someone identifies.
You're welcome to let me know your preferred name and pronouns, and I'll use them when communicating with you. My patient intake form includes space to record your pronouns, and the clinic's patient management system can also record this information. There is no obligation to disclose your pronouns, gender identity or sexuality if you don't wish to. You're welcome to share what feels comfortable and relevant to your care.
The clinic's patient management system also allows me to record your preferred name separately from your legal name. This means I can use the name you prefer in everyday interactions while retaining your legal name where it is required for insurance claims, billing or other administrative purposes.
You don't need to explain or justify your identity to receive acupuncture or Chinese medicine consultations.
Your body, your choice
Acupuncture involves physical contact and, depending on the treatment, access to particular areas of the body.
I recognise that personal boundaries, past healthcare experiences, gender dysphoria and other circumstances can influence how comfortable someone feels during treatment.
Before proceeding, I'll explain the proposed treatment, including needle placement and any need to adjust clothing or expose particular areas.
You can ask questions, decline a technique, request an adjustment or withdraw your consent at any time.
Where practical, we'll discuss alternative approaches or modify the treatment to respect your preferences.
Privacy, dignity and confidentiality
Your personal health information, including information about your gender identity, sexuality or medical history, is treated confidentially in accordance with applicable privacy obligations.
I aim to ask only for information relevant to your healthcare and to avoid unnecessary assumptions about your relationships, body or identity.
If there's something that would help you feel more comfortable during your appointment, you're welcome to raise it beforehand or during the consultation.
