Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine for Brunswick Locals

An independent acupuncture clinic near Brunswick, offering affordable Chinese medicine, LGBTQIA+ inclusive, trans-affirming and neurodivergent-friendly healthcare.

I've lived in Brunswick for many years and watched the suburb change and develop over that time. It's a community I know well and have a longstanding connection with.

Although my clinic is a little further up Sydney Road in Coburg, I've been seeing patients from Brunswick and the surrounding suburbs for many years.

If you're looking for acupuncture or Chinese medicine in Brunswick, Coburg Chinese Medicine offers an independent practice that's easily reached by bicycle, tram or car. Alongside acupuncture, I also practise Chinese herbal medicine, cupping and moxibustion. If you're interested in herbal treatment, we can discuss whether it may be suitable for your circumstances, taking into account your health history, medications and any other treatment you're receiving.

My approach is straightforward, inclusive and centred on helping people make informed decisions about their healthcare.

LGBTQIA+ Inclusive, Trans-Affirming and Neurodivergent-Friendly Acupuncture

I want Coburg Chinese Medicine to be somewhere people feel comfortable discussing their health without having to explain or defend who they are.

My practice welcomes LGBTQIA+ people, including transgender, non-binary and gender-diverse patients, as well as neurodivergent people.

I recognise that healthcare environments aren't always straightforward or comfortable for everyone. Previous experiences, assumptions about gender or bodies, sensory sensitivities and differences in communication can all influence how someone experiences a consultation.

I aim to provide care that respects your identity, preferences and personal boundaries.

In practical terms, this includes:

  • Respecting your name, pronouns and the language you use to describe yourself and your body.

  • Explaining procedures and checking consent throughout treatment.

  • Discussing adjustments to positioning, clothing, draping or treatment techniques where appropriate.

  • Accommodating different communication preferences and allowing time to process information.

  • Taking sensory sensitivities and previous healthcare experiences into consideration.

You're welcome to raise questions or discuss adjustments at any stage. You don't need to disclose personal information that isn't relevant to your care.

Why I Run an Independent, Affordable Acupuncture Clinic

When I established Coburg Chinese Medicine in 2012, one of my reasons for opening my own practice was to have greater control over how I worked and what I charged.

In some clinics, practitioners pay a percentage of their earnings to the business providing their rooms and other services. These arrangements can add to the cost of practising and influence the fees practitioners need to charge.

Running my own single-practitioner clinic allows me to keep my overheads relatively low and set fees that reflect my belief that healthcare should be financially accessible.

For me, affordable acupuncture isn't simply about the cost of one appointment. It's also about making sure the cumulative cost of treatment doesn't become an unnecessary barrier when further appointments are appropriate.

Of course, not everyone needs multiple treatments. That's something we'll discuss during your consultation, taking into account your circumstances, the available evidence, what we might reasonably expect from treatment and the practicalities of time and cost.

I don't expect patients to commit to a predetermined course of appointments. We'll discuss whether further treatment is appropriate and review that as we go.

Working independently also means you'll see me at each appointment. I value that continuity and the opportunity to develop an understanding of your circumstances over time.

I try to make healthcare straightforward. I'll explain what I'm suggesting and why, acknowledge the limitations of Chinese medicine, and discuss other healthcare options where appropriate. My aim is to help you make informed decisions without unnecessary pressure or complications.

Chinese Medicine Brunswick – Treatments and Services

At Coburg Chinese Medicine, I offer several traditional Chinese medicine therapies for people living in Brunswick and the surrounding northern suburbs.

These include:

  • Acupuncture: The insertion of fine, sterile, single-use needles at selected points on the body.

  • Chinese herbal medicine: Herbal prescriptions considered according to individual circumstances, including relevant medications and potential interactions.

  • Dry cupping: A traditional technique using suction cups applied to the skin.

  • Wet cupping (Hijama): A form of cupping involving superficial skin incisions and blood removal, subject to individual assessment and appropriate safety precautions.

  • Moxibustion: A traditional technique involving the application of heat using moxa.

The suitability of any treatment depends on your health history, circumstances and preferences.

I also see people from Brunswick who are considering acupuncture for a range of health concerns, including seasonal hay fever and allergic rhinitis. If Melbourne's spring pollen season is causing problems, you can read more about my acupuncture for hay fever in Melbourne consultations.

What to Expect at Your First Acupuncture Appointment

Your initial consultation includes a discussion of why you've come in, your medical history, relevant investigations, medications and any other healthcare you're receiving.

I'll explain my assessment, discuss whether acupuncture or another approach is appropriate, and answer your questions before proceeding.

Acupuncture isn't suitable for every condition, and the quality of evidence supporting its use varies. I think it's important to be realistic about what treatment may offer, rather than promising particular results.

Where appropriate, I'm also happy to discuss how acupuncture or Chinese medicine might fit alongside care from your GP, specialist or other healthcare practitioners.

Acupuncture Fees – Affordable Care Near Brunswick

My standard consultation fees are:

Initial acupuncture consultation — $115 60 minutes

Ongoing acupuncture consultation — $87 from 45 minutes

Other appointment types, including longer consultations and Chinese herbal medicine appointments, may have different fees.

You can find further information on the Fees & Opening Hours page.
