Acupuncture For Male Infertility Melbourne
Chinese Medicine for Male Infertility
Lets talk some statistics. In seeking to become pregnant the male partner can be 50% of the equation. Couples experiencing difficulties to become pregnant can occur for some couple, current statistics place this at 15% of couples. In 60% of couples experiencing these fertility issues the problems can be either a combination of both the male and female partner, or the male partner alone. However, unless you are willing to undertake IVF there seems to be very little information available to men of how to proceed or what to do to improve their chances, much of the focus, especially in fertility clinics, is upon the female partner. Check out our fertility acupuncture page for more information and acupuncture research.
Some issues that may lead to male infertility include:
- Low Libido
- Premature Ejaculation
- Sedentary Activity
- Inadequate diets
- Low sperm Morphology
- Low Sperm Count
- Low Sperm Motility
- Endocrine disorders
- Genetic conditions such as Klinefelters syndrome
Using Herbs and Acupuncture for Sperm Quality
At our clinic our primary focus is to work with you in a holistic way looking at not only any results or diagnosis you may have, but also how other things could have a possible impact upon your sperm quality, such as your work, diet and lifestyle. Typically we will schedule acupuncture on a weekly basis as we do with our female fertility patients, with the key aim to bring you to a better place of health and well being. In order to achieve this, there may be some habits you will have to be willing to give up and others that may be a good idea to take up. We encourage those seeking assistance from us to be open to some healthy sustainable change. In addition to the male fertility acupuncture, dietary and lifestyle advice we may also prescribe some Chinese herbs for you to take that are traditionally indicated for use.
What Happens During an Acupuncture Session?
After you fill in your intake form we will take you into the treatment area and have a bit of a chat about any fertility or sperm tests you may have had and their results. We will ask you about various other things including your diet, your digestion, sleep, stress etc. We will then take your pulse and feel your abdomen if needed. We will discuss with you any lifestyle or dietary recommendations that may be appropriate for you. We will then discuss with you our male fertility acupuncture treatment plan and what that entails. Typically we like to treat both the front and back of the body, and often we will use some cups or massage to help with those aches an pains of daily life that creep up. The single use acupuncture needles are put in place and left in for usually 15-30 minutes per side. We ask that you wear loose fitting clothes on the day or bring some shorts along to change into.
